Both WHS Track teams had amazing night’s last night at the Mid-Eastern Conference Track meet hosted by Cowan. Prior to the MEC Meet, the WHS Coaching Staff and Team knew the outcome would be very close and both teams had a chance to compete for a title. The WHS Boys’ team dominated last night scoring 191 points and winning conference for the first time since 2012. Awesome!!
Individual champions were Senior Daxton Stevens in the 100 and long jump, Freshman Sofani Buck in the 400, Junior Nathan Herbst in the 800 and 1600, and Junior Alex Herbst won the 3200. Alex Herbst, after running 3 other events, was able to beat the Wapahani School Record in the 3200 by 4 seconds and was 2 seconds away from tying the Mid-Eastern Conference Record.
The Wapahani Girls team finished 2nd in Conference after finishing 5th place last year in at the conference meet. The WHS Girls team was led by Sophomore Lexah Dornick, Sophomore Sydney Cook, Sophomore Havyn Gates, Freshman Lexi Wulff, Sophomore Olivia Neal, and Sophomore Taylor Johns. Both teams compete next week at sectionals for a chance to qualify for regionals. Great job both teams!
